The Bible highly esteems women with statements that would be shocking to the men of that age (two thousand plus years ago).
The very fact that the first witnesses of Christ’s resurrection were women is extremely telling. If the New Testament gospel accounts were contrived, why in the blazes would the male writers coin women as the primary witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection when in that time, women’s testimonies weren’t even valid in court?
Here’s just another example of upholding women when Jesus rebuked His disciples for frowning upon the noble actions made by a woman:
While Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon, a man who had a serious skin disease, a woman approached Him with an alabaster jar of very expensive fragrant oil. She poured it on His head as He was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. “Why this waste? ” they asked. “This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor.” But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a noble thing for Me. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me. By pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she has prepared Me for burial. I assure you: Wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.” (Matthew 26:6-13)
Shall I continue with this most controversial Scripture penned by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the church in Galatia:
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ like a garment. There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:27, 28)
And how about when Paul warns men:
“Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives with an understanding of their weaker nature yet showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)
Or when God in the Old Testament rebukes men who claimed to follow Him:
“And this is another thing you do: you cover the Lord ’s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning, because He no longer respects your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands. Yet you ask, “For what reason? ” Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have acted treacherously against her, though she was your marriage partner and your wife by covenant. Didn’t the one God make us with a remnant of His life-breath? And what does the One seek? A godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully, and do not act treacherously against the wife of your youth. “If he hates and divorces his wife, ” says the Lord God of Israel, “he covers his garment with injustice,” says the Lord of Hosts. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully, and do not act treacherously.” (Malachi 2:13-16)
I can quote dozens more, but I encourage you to seek the Scriptures yourself, to delve into the Bible and discover just how precious women are to God.
May His love heal your heart, and His tenderness mend your brokenness. He is waiting for you.
