“Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God’s sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God, as God said: I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people. Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
“However, I did give them this command: Obey Me, and then I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must follow every way I command you so that it may go well with you. Yet they didn’t listen or pay attention but followed their own advice and according to their own stubborn, evil heart. They went backward and not forward.” (Jeremiah 7:23, 24)
Either God is a liar, or our own hearts and minds are.
If there’s a guy in your life that you know you’re compromising with, whether he’s a self-proclaimed Christian, or a nonbeliever, please know that God says when we follow His way, it will go well for us. That’s a promise. But when we ignore Him, and disobey Him, we will greatly suffer for it.
Later on in this chapter of Jeremiah, God says He tried sending prophet after prophet so His people would listen, but they wouldn’t, they denied discipline. He said truth had perished from them, and so because they chose the lie over Him, He promised: “the LORD has rejected and abandoned the generation under His wrath.”
We must not deceive ourselves into thinking Jesus and the Old Covenant God are different Gods; they’re the same. In revelation we see the greatest wrath ever inflicted upon mankind, and Jesus is the one who starts and finishes it.
If you find yourself stuck, weak, unable to let this guy go, I beg you to consider: does the most-powerful Holy Spirit of Christ, who Apostle Paul claims I can do all things through, really live in me if I cannot, or do not want to let go of this person I should not be with?
Based on Scripture, I would say you do not have His Spirit, or at one time you did, but have now walked away from Him in your heart, your mind still being deceived, causing you to think you’re still a child of God.
I say this because Hebrews 10 warns:
“Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies. For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us. For we know the one who said, “I will take revenge. I will pay them back.” He also said, “The Lord will judge his own people.” It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever. So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.” But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.” (Hebrews 10:26-36, 38, 39 NLT)
Precious sisters, I write to you out of fear and love. I pray for you all every day, and it is my desire and duty before our King to make sure I do my part in helping you to not give up, but remain steadfast in the faith so you will receive the kingdom. It is our obligation as children of God to hold one another accountable and encourage each other, all the more as we say the day of His return drawing near.
I love you girls, and pray you choose Jesus over anything and anyone for His sake, and the sake of keeping your souls.
“So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose. Do everything without grumbling and arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world. Hold firmly to the message of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.” (Philippians 2:12-16 HCSB)
